Treadmill Repair

Treadmill repair is a part of owning a treadmill, but doesn’t necessarily have to be. What I mean is, spend the time to choose well and you’ll end up with a treadmill that doesn’t need any repair, or won’t need any repair for a long time after you’ve purchased it.

There are all kinds of treadmill review and general consumer reports kinds of services available on the internet. If you’re going to spend a considerable amount of money on something like a large home gym machine, it’s good to have access to reliable, unbiased information.

There are many free treadmill review websites out there too. These can be a good place to start in gather some information about various treadmills. You’re going to find some detailed information, but not as much as you would with some kind of premium consumer interest group such as Consumer Reports.

Basic treadmill repair generally involves a few basic steps. If you can’t fix it yourself or aren’t confident or knowledgeable enough to attempt fixing it yourself, then move on to the next step. Check your warranty to see if the repair is covered. Warranty coverage is also a factor that should figure into your deciding on a particular model of treadmill.

Quality treadmills will usually come with a warranty that lasts a least six months, while a good warranty will last one year or longer in many cases. These terms refer to overall warranties, but most treadmills have individual warranties for the different sections of parts. For example, most treadmills that are covered well will have one warranty for the motor and another for the frame or deck area.

Another thing to consider is whether or not repairs are covered under the warranty. Smaller repairs in vague categories may or may not be covered under a warranty. It is always better to find this out beforehand. Also, what are the conditions of the warranty? It’s good to find out where you will have to take the machine to in order to qualify for warranty coverage on the cost of repairs.

One of the most important aspects of treadmill repair is treadmill maintenance. Basic treadmill maintenance consists mainly of keeping the surfaces relatively clean and free of dust. Until you own a unit for more than a year you really shouldn’t have to worry about lubricating the moving parts. But it is a good idea to have maintenance kit around just incase.

A treadmill maintenance kit generally contains some type of spray lubricant as well as an applicator that will allow you to get to the squeaky parts. A cheap wrench of some kind is usually provided as well. Make sure that all the right bolts are tightened in addition to lubrication if a squeak develops.

But do be sure to act rather quickly when problems develop with your treadmill, as oftentimes squeaks and things are just symptoms of developing problems that will get wore if not addressed. So, in addition to performing whatever maintenance seems appropriate, make sure that obvious things like squeaks are seen to. This way you’ll be able to enjoy your treadmill for years to come.
